A Quilt made by Nan

My Nanny Bessie dropped by with a quilt that she made for me. The fabric has art work on it made by one of my favourite artists, Cicely Mary Barker. She was alive in the 1920's when women weren't thought of as poets OR artists. She became famous at both. Her art work and poems are all about fairies and they are amazing!!
Below are pictures of the quilt, a pillow case that Nan also made for me, and a painting by Barker along with it's poem.

My berries cluster black and thick
For rich and poor alike to pick.

I'll tear your dress, and cling, and tease,
And scratch your hands and arms and knees.

I'll stain your fingers and your face,
And then I'll laugh at your disgrace.

                                                  But when the bramble-jelly's made,
You'll find your trouble well repaid.

The Corner Brook Triathlon!!

This year I did the sprint triathlon!  It was soo much fun!
The distances were 500 m swim, 20 km bike, and 6 km run.
My dad and I did it together, and we finished it side by side.
My time was 1 hour and 51 minutes, my placing was eleventh.
After the race our family went to Brewed on Bernard and had
steamers. Dad and I went to Louis Gee's pizza later on! I also
found out that I am the youngest person to complete a sprint triathlon  in
 Corner brook!
Nan and I at the start area!

On lap 1 of 2 of the bike course.
 Here we are  running.

 Finishing the race together!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My swim camp coach, Alison and I post race at Brewed on Bernard. Her teaching is amazing!

The Garden Edition

Today was strawberry picking day, so Mom and I armed ourselves with baskets and headed out to the garden. The strawberry patch is huge and over flowing with juicy, sweet fruit. The last two rows are a few years old and produce only small, sour berries but that wasn't a problem. Dad made strawberry jam and strawberry soda with them!
The small jar has jam, the big one has soda.

Now for lots of strawberry photos!

Here are two extreme berry sizes!!!

An apple from Dad's apple tree.
Mom is putting netting over the berries to keep the birds from eating them.

 Our chives.

Isaac's oregano patch.

This pansy was in a tomato pot when we brought it home.  Mom transplanted into the berry patch.
